REDESIGNING OFFICE SPACE

September 11, 2017

Recently awarded MyEcoWall - an acoustic-insulated space separator, has innovatively redesigned office walls using an unlikely material, making it 100% biodegradable.

When office furniture and partitions get dated, they are often dumped with no afterthought as to what happens beyond that point. Not only this, but these products are often made of toxic chemicals and are environmentally harmful. Designers Caterina Vianna and Ferran Zaragoza, students from University School of Design and Art in Barcelona, studied in detail each material before its selection to ensure it ticked every box and fit the required qualities needed from the materials. Much consideration has gone into designing MyEcoWall to ensure it has a cradle to cradle lifecycle, the most interesting material used is mushroom!

MyEcoWall is completely assembled by screws, with parts that are easily changed. The product has been designed so that each piece is replaceable, eliminating the concept of “waste” and increasing recyclability. The parts made with Alcoa Aluminum (profile and structures) can be remanufactured or recycled; the panels, handles, part of the wheel and wool fabric, which its materials are from the biological cycle (Ecovative Mushroom® Material & MycoBoard™, wool and cork), are reusable as compost, thus returning them to soil as a nutrient.

We hope to see MyEcoWall dominating the office furniture industry in the not too distant future!
