Finally! Plastic meets its nemesis. Finland's new start up company Sulapac has created premium eco-packaging that aims to kick plastic packaging to the curb. We LOVE this design!
Unless your head has been in the sand, then you are aware of the problems we face globally with plastic. The sad fact is that plastic production is not slowing down and according to recent reports, global demand for plastic packaging is expected to reach $375 billion by 2020.
Sulapac's packaging sits in the same market as plastic however it differs in a very significant way - it's BIODEGRADABLE!
The power duo behind Sulapac, Suvi Haimi and Laura Kyllönen, are professionals in the fields of medicine and biomechanics. One of the many problems they have with the current packaging on the market today, is that a product may be ecological, but the packaging it is stored in, is the exact opposite. Working together with Onbone founders, Petro Lahtinen and Autti Pärssinen, they combined wood chip and natural adhesive to form the material this innovative packaging is made from.
Apart from the all important visual appeal the packaging possesses, Sulapac's packaging also has the capability to be mass produced using similar methods as plastic production. It is water resistant and it is also cost effective, making it appealing to companies world wide.
We sure hope they achieve their vision to be the dominant material in their industry, because the packaging industry is screaming for some innovation that treats our Earth with respect.
Well done Sulapac!
